Assistant Director of Communications

REPORTS TO DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS

SUMMARY

The Rams Club is the private fundraising organization dedicated to support of the Department of Athletics at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. With over 20,000 members, The Rams Club is committed to the mission of providing educational and athletic opportunities for Carolina student-athletes.

The successful candidate for this position will be a key member of the Communications Team. The candidate will be the primary designer of digital and print collateral for the organization while also supporting Rams Club general communications efforts. This position requires the abilities to develop collateral design from scratch using Adobe Creative Suite programs, to contribute written content and other communications production, to develop and manage brand consistency, and to participate in the creative process for a multi-faceted communications plan. Efforts will focus on development-based initiatives including major gifts proposals, annual fund communications, special events, and capital and endowment fundraising initiatives.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Concept, design, and collateral delivery for use in print and digital spaces, including proposals, brochures, web, social media, etc.
  • Support creation of written content for select designed collateral
  • Ensure consistent brand identity in all communications
  • Collaborate with stakeholders for planning and review of collateral
  • Work with external vendors to manage production and delivery of materials

 

REQUIRED/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Live in the Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Durham area
  • 4-year degree in a related field of study
  • 1-2 years of relevant communications and design experience in a professional setting
  • Experience in a sports and/or non-profit organization
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Copy writing or editing experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; experience with AP Style
  • Ability to work within brand to refresh traditional looks and confidence to offer unique design concepts
  • Ability to solve problems within the design or printing space
  • Ability to handle short- and long-term deadlines in a fast-paced office
  • Comfort with occasional evening and weekend work
  • Enthusiasm for continued education in the always-evolving communications and design space

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with Asana or other online project management systems
  • Understanding of social media best practices
  • Experience with video editing
  • An understanding of college athletics
  • Love of UNC
