University of North Carolina Men’s Golf Head Coach Position Endowed

Rams Club members Johnny and Tricia Thompson support team through generous gift.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Rams Club announced today a generous gift from Johnny and Tricia Thompson of Atlanta, Ga., in support of Carolina Men’s Golf. The Thompsons will provide significant annual gifts to the program along with a $5 million estate gift to endow the Men’s Golf head coach position.

The Thompsons have a love of golf and a long-standing family connection to Carolina, with generations of their family counted among alumni. The Thompsons’ support ensures promising golf student-athletes today and well into the future will have the opportunity to learn under outstanding coaches and to achieve great things in both athletics and on the course.

Andrew DiBitetto, the Johnny and Tricia Thompson Men’s Golf Head Coach, shared that “Johnny and Tricia have a deep love for the University and golf. It’s amazing to see our sport bring multiple generations of their family together. Now, we see that love and connection culminate in an incredible gift back to UNC. It’s an honor for Carolina Golf to grow and thrive because of their passion for the University and the sport.”

An endowed head coaching position provides lasting benefits that directly enhance a program’s success. This gift strengthens UNC’s ability to recruit and retain elite coaching talent and safeguards consistent leadership, training, and support at the highest level for student-athletes.

The Rams Club is the fundraising membership organization for Carolina Athletics. More than 22,000 Rams Club members support Carolina student-athletes annually with their gifts, ensuring an elite student-athlete experience for Tar Heels in 28 sports.
