John Montgomery was Executive Director of the Educational Foundation, Inc. from 2001-August 2025. Under his leadership, The Rams Club saw significant growth in fundraising for Carolina Athletics and Tar Heel student-athletes, as well as record-breaking membership increases. In his tenure as Executive Director, just the third in Rams Club history, Montgomery guided fundraising efforts for more than 40 capital projects and launched FORevHER Tar Heels, in recognition and support of Carolina’s women’s teams.

In 2009, he was named the Division I Fundraiser of the Year by the National Association of Athletic Development Directors (NAADD).

Prior to his time at the Rams Club, John led the fundraising efforts at Radford University, UNC Greensboro, and Southern Methodist University.

He received his undergraduate degree from Radford before earning his master’s in Sport Administration from Western Illinois University.
