The Rams Club is proud to announce the Williams Society – a recognition of supporters whose visionary philanthropy has created a legacy of impact for Carolina Athletics. The donors to the Williams Society have built a strong foundation that gives exceptional opportunities to generations of Carolina student-athletes.
The Williams Society launched with 30 inaugural members whose financial contributions have reached a remarkable milestone. Through their extraordinary commitment to giving, these supporters help ensure Carolina student-athletes today – and well into the future – have the chance to represent Carolina academically and athletically. Among the most loyal Carolina Athletics’ fans, Williams Society members have more than 950 combined years of giving and have endowed 48 Carolina student-athlete scholarships.
The society is named in honor of legendary Carolina supporters Roy and Wanda Williams because of their passion for Carolina, their generosity, and the standard they’ve set for investing in this University – especially in the student-athletes. Their generosity extends far beyond financial contributions. It’s reflected in the time they give, the way they show up for Carolina, and the love they share with its student-athletes and community.
“Wanda and I are truly humbled and deeply honored to have this society named for us,” said Roy Williams. “Carolina has given our family so much. It’s a part of who we are. This University stands for something bigger than any one person or even any one team – it represents opportunity, education, character, and service. It is our privilege to give back to the place that makes all of that possible.”
No matter how you became a fan or when you started bleeding blue, there are moments that shaped your experience. Comebacks, game-winners, thrilling OTs, and nail-biting finishes. All of those experiences happen because talented student-athletes practice, train, compete, and win with passion and Tar Heel pride.
Behind each of them are the fans and donors who make it all possible. Their collective generosity has built Carolina Athletics into a powerhouse across 28 sports. It has given student-athletes the chance to excel in the classroom and in competition.
And among that community are supporters whose decades of extraordinary generosity have created a lasting legacy for Carolina Athletics. The Williams Society celebrates that commitment and the generations of student-athletes it has touched.
“The Williams Society recognizes a group of Tar Heels with a deep belief in our University,” said Rams Club Executive Director Seth Reeves. “Their lifelong commitment to Carolina Athletics has shaped opportunities for current and future generations, and we are so grateful. It’s fitting that we recognize their commitment by honoring one of the all-time greats in Carolina history and the impact Roy and Wanda continue to make on Carolina.”
The Williams Society provides a lasting way to celebrate impact and honor the giving that has shaped Carolina Athletics and is helping to build a strong future.
