Change is a constant in college athletics these days – with new challenges and opportunities emerging almost daily. There is one constant, however, in this shifting landscape: Carolina Athletics and The Rams Club’s commitment to excellence.
It is essential for Carolina to develop flexible strategies to provide critical resources for all 28 of our sports and to maintain our high standard of excellence for such a broad-based program. To achieve this, The Rams Club is launching two new funds designed to provide adaptable, sustainable support for Carolina Athletics and our Tar Heel student-athletes: The Carolina Athletics Excellence Fund and The John & Sharie Montgomery Excellence Endowment.
The The John & Sharie Montgomery Excellence Endowment creates an annual yield that is available to support all Carolina sports programs. With the Carolina Athletics Excellence Fund, you can designate your gift to Baseball, Football, Men’s Basketball, or in support of all sports.
The John & Sharie Montgomery Excellence Endowment
This endowment – named for The Rams Club’s Executive Director Emeritus and his family to honor their extraordinary impact on Carolina Athletics – will provide a long-term funding solution with critical, built-in flexibility to address future needs. The annual yield from this endowment will be used to:
- Cover any scholarship deficit beyond what the Scholarship Endowment Trust provides.
- Provide a flexible resource for us to answer the challenges and opportunities presented to Carolina Athletics in the years ahead.
Carolina Athletics Excellence Fund
This fund is designed to provide immediate, unrestricted funding to address today’s athletic needs. A robust Excellence Fund enables Carolina to respond swiftly to current challenges as well as seize emerging opportunities.
Gifts to the Excellence Fund (any designation) receive 2 Priority Points per $100. Additionally, you can designate your Excellence Fund gift to Baseball, Football, Men’s Basketball, or a General designation that supports all Carolina sports programs.
Carolina Baseball Excellence Fund
The level of excellence associated with the Carolina Baseball program is well-earned. It exists because the student-athletes and coaches put in the work to be outstanding representatives of our University – and it exists because lettermen, fans, and friends like you invest in our young men and this program.
The Baseball Excellence Fund provides immediate, unrestricted support to address the most pressing needs of Carolina Baseball. This fund gives the program the flexibility to respond quickly to today’s challenges while capitalizing on opportunities that strengthen our competitive position.
The Baseball Excellence Fund allows Carolina to direct resources where they are needed most to support the sustained success of the program, including:
- Meeting the Evolving Demands of Baseball by providing the resources necessary to adapt to roster management, recruiting, technology, and other emerging needs in today’s game.
- Enhancing the Student-Athlete Experience through investments in player development, academic support, performance training, nutrition, and mental health resources tailored specifically to Baseball student-athletes.
- Supporting Coaches & Staff by offering the financial flexibility to attract and retain elite coaching talent, invest in professional development, and strengthen the infrastructure that supports the program on and off the field.

To respond to the evolving needs of Carolina Football, we ask you to consider support that will provide flexible, sustainable funds to the program and our Tar Heel student-athletes.
The Football Excellence Fund provides flexible, unrestricted funding by making resources immediately available to address the current needs of the football program. The Excellence Fund enables Carolina to respond swiftly to current challenges as well as seize emerging opportunities.

Carolina Men’s Basketball Excellence Fund
The Men’s Basketball Excellence Fund allows Carolina to direct resources where they are needed most to support the sustained success of the program, including:
- Meeting the Evolving Demands of Men’s Basketball by providing the resources necessary to adapt to roster management, recruiting, technology, and other emerging needs in today’s game.
- Enhancing the Student-Athlete Experience through investments in player development, academic support, performance training, nutrition, and mental health resources tailored specifically to Men’s Basketball student-athletes.
- Supporting Coaches & Staff by offering the financial flexibility to attract and retain elite coaching talent, invest in professional development, and strengthen the infrastructure that supports the program on and off the court.

Gifts to these funds can earn valuable bonus Priority Points. Gifts to the Excellence Fund will earn 2 points per $100 donated (other gifts earn 1.0 point per $100 donated). Gifts to The John & Sharie Montgomery Excellence Endowment will earn 1.4 points per $100 donated.

Participation in these funds is supplemental to your annual Rams Club membership. Gifts to these initiatives do not replace or satisfy annual membership obligations or provide benefits of membership.
After supplementing the cost of scholarships not fully covered by the Scholarship Endowment Trust, both of these adaptable funding initiatives will allow us to provide unrestricted financial support in order to:
- Meet Changing Needs by providing the resources necessary to adapt to new opportunities in the evolving college sports landscape.
- Enhance the Student-Athlete Experience through investing in development initiatives, like support services, academic programs, and mental health resources.
- Support Coaches & Staff by providing the financial flexibility to invest in coaching talent, leadership development, and staff training.
- Provide Elite Facilities with cutting edge tools and environments to advance our teams as sports science and technology grow, optimizing development and performance.
