Since Ron Miller brought Fencing to UNC, it has grown into one of Carolina’s longest running sports. More than a thousand student-athletes have come through the little corner of Fetzer Gym now named the Ronald Miller Fencing Center – learning drills, taking lessons, and making connections that have lasted a lifetime. No matter your weapon, you were part of a team. Can you help the tradition of excellence continue for future student-athletes? 

Coach Jednak’s fencers have made strides in recent years, achieving notable successes both on and off the strip, including individual and team ACC Championships. They need your help to continue building on this momentum. You can provide the necessary resources to ensure our fencers continue to compete at the highest level.

UNC Fencing has a rich legacy and has proudly hosted the ACC Fencing Championships seven times and produced numerous All Americans, USA Fencing team members, and Olympians. These accolades have contributed to the rise of the program, and they have helped establish Carolina as a leader in the collegiate fencing space. 

Our Biggest Funding Needs

As the team continues to thrive, there are critical needs that your contributions will help address: 

• Equipment: With equipment costs rising, your support will help us ensure our athletes have the best tools to succeed. Weapons, masks, uniforms, training equipment, safety gear – there is a lot that goes into building a championship-level program. 
• Recruiting: To continue building a competitive and diverse team, funding is needed to recruit the very best fencers to Carolina Fencing. 
• Travel: Fencing is a national and international sport, and travel for competitions is essential to keep our athletes competitive at the highest levels. It provides more opportunities and experiences for our student-athletes to grow and develop. 
• Facility Enhancements: The Ron Miller Fencing Center hasn’t seen significant improvements in a long time. We’d like to offer our fencers improved air circulation, upgraded lighting, new sport court flooring, and five additional practice strips. These improvements will create a more comfortable and efficient training space, allowing our student-athletes to perform at their best and ensuring the facility meets the growing demands of our program.
