Carolina Athletics and The Rams Club have announced critical extra funding for nine of Carolina’s women’s sports programs made possible through the FORevHER Tar Heels Excellence Fund.

Generous supporters contribute the type of resources needed to win championships via the Excellence Fund, enhancing the winning ways of Carolina’s women’s sports programs overall.

In 2023-24, awards totaling more than $175,000 were made to the following programs and initiatives to elevate the student-athlete experience::

• Fencing – for equipment 
• Field Hockey – for new head coach funding
• Women’s Golf – for equipment
• Gymnastics – for equipment & safety 
• Women’s Lacrosse – for technology, data analytics & video
• Rowing – for boats
• Women’s Soccer – for recruiting golf cart
• Softball – for new head coach funding
• Volleyball – for new head coach funding
• Cheerleading – for uniforms and gameday needs
• General – for improvements to the Carmichael Arena lobby

“Since its inception, the FORevHER Tar Heels initiative has been about maximizing the experience for Carolina’s female student-athletes,” said gymnastics head coach Danna Durante. “We approach each day heading into our first-ever ACC gymnastics season with goals to achieve at the highest level, to represent our University and our programs in a way that makes all Tar Heels proud. Rams Club members are critical to that effort. The donors to the FORevHER Tar Heels Excellence Fund give us that extra push to chase and reach our goals, and I want them to know it is sincerely appreciated.”

The FORevHER Tar Heels Excellence Fund is part of the broader FORevHER Tar Heels initiative – championing Carolina’s women student-athletes. FORevHER Tar Heels continues to build a community of financial and professional support of Carolina’s 15 women’s teams through scholarships, facilities, and a mentorship program pairing 50 current student-athletes with professional mentors. The FORevHER Tar Heels initiative has raised more than $145 million since it launched in 2019, and continues to be a positive way for donors to support Carolina women’s athletics excellence.
